چکیده

The complex and unsteady aerodynamics of vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) pose significant challenges for simulation tools. Recently, significant research efforts have focused on the development of new methods for analysing and optimising the aerodynamic performance of VAWTs. This paper presents an electric circuit model for Darrieus-type vertical axis wind turbine (DT-VAWT) rotors. The novel Tchakoua model is based on the mechanical description given by the Paraschivoiu double-multiple streamtube model using a mechanical-electrical analogy. Model simulations were conducted using MATLAB for a three-bladed rotor architecture, characterized by a NACA0012 profile, an average Reynolds number of 40,000 for the blade and a tip speed ratio of 5. The results obtained show strong agreement with findings from both aerodynamic and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models in the literature.

Unsteady aerodynamic performance of Dual-Row H-Darrieus vertical axis wind turbine

H-rotor Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) is one of the most efficient energy suppliers which have been investigated in many recent types of research. The aim of this work is to study the aerodynamic performance of a doubled-row H-Darrieus VAWT. First, an ordinary three-bladed VAWT with NACA4415 profile is simulated by means of 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and results are compared to a...

A New Approach for Modeling Darrieus-Type Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Rotors Using Electrical Equivalent Circuit Analogy: Basis of Theoretical Formulations and Model Development

Models are crucial in the engineering design process because they can be used for both the optimization of design parameters and the prediction of performance. Thus, models can significantly reduce design, development and optimization costs. This paper proposes a novel equivalent electrical model for Darrieus-type vertical axis wind turbines (DTVAWTs). The proposed model was built from the mech...

Torsional Aeroelasticity of a Flexible VAWT Blade using a Combined Aerodynamic Method by Considering Post-stall and Local Reynolds Regime

The present research investigates the torsional aeroelasticity of the blade of an H-type vertical axis wind turbine subject to stall and post-stall conditions in various Reynolds regimes, which is experienced by the blade in a full revolution. In order to simulate the aerodynamics, a new model based on a combination of the Double Multi Streamtubes (DMST) model and the nonlinear multi-criteria C...

Analysing the suspension system of variable- geometry oval-trajectory (VGOT) Darrieus wind turbines

A new computational model for the analysis of the suspension system of an innovative concept in vertical-axis wind turbines is introduced. We used this model to study a new concept in extra-large wind-power plants: the VGOT (variable-geometry oval-trajectory) Darrieus wind turbine. In a traditional Darrieus turbine, the blades rotate around a central vertical axis. In the VGOT concept each blad...
